The John K. Houston Papers consist of correspondence, military orders, receipts, invoices, and records of John K. Houston during the Civil War (1862-1866), Sergeant and later Officer in Company H, 5th Regiment of Infantry, California Volunteers (1861-1863), 2nd Lieutenant in Company C, 5th Regiment of Infantry, California Volunteers (1863), 2nd and 1st Lieutenant in Company G, 1st Battalion of Veteran Infantry, California Volunteers (1863-1866), and 1st Lieutenant in Company B, 1st Battalion of Veteran Infantry, California Volunteers (1866). The collection contains: military orders, receipts, invoices, records, personal correspondence, 1862-1865; and military correspondence (1863-1866).
